Board Treasurer – Michell L. Opalski
BACK
A native of the Washington, D.C. area, Mitchell Opalski graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1986 with a degree in Accounting. He worked in the D.C. office of Deloitte & Touche for 8 years. As a Senior Audit Manager, he specialized in financial statement audits of not-for-profits and commercial real estate entities. His largest clients were the American Red Cross National Headquarters and Habitat for Humanity International.
Mitch left public accounting to work in Finance and Audit at BlueCross BlueShield of D.C., where he was later appointed to the management team that that effected the merger of the Maryland and D.C. BlueCross BlueShield Plans (renamed CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield).
Mitch moved on to work as COO of the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) in Washington, D.C. where he also served as the first Executive Director of the Private Duty Home Care Association, an affiliate of NAHC. It was here that Mitch developed a passion for home care and taking care of the elderly and disabled.
In 2007 Mitch became a home care provider when he opened the first Synergy HomeCare franchise office in Virginia. He grew the company by double digit percentages each of its first 5 years, and his agency is now the second largest in the Synergy HomeCare franchise system.
Mitch has a passion for gardening and landscape design, and takes time to travel and discover new places. But outside of work, he spends the most time contributing to the community in which he has lived his entire adult life. He has and continues to serve on numerous non-profit boards and government commissions, such as Senior Services of Alexandria, Arlington County Commission on Aging, At Home Alexandria, Mount Vernon at Home, and the Eden Alternative.
